Will the excitement last?
From David:
We’re making the kids blog every day… to make sure they don’t forget how to be creative over the summer. (Too bad we can’t do summer math practice in a blog). We’ll see how long we/they can keep it up. (And how long you can all keep up with them!)
Last year, the first evening in each new city was always pretty ugly… tired, hungry, can’t find our way around, where’s the nearest grocery store, what the heck is all this food in the store in foreign languages, how do we check out, is there a better restaurant than the one right outside the door of our apartment, etc.
So I’m happy to report that tonight went really smooth. We found the store relatively quickly, we could tell what “aluminyum foylo” was, etc. We’re still not quite sure what “Isil Islem Gormus Pilic Sucuk” is but it looks like Polish Sausage. (“Pilic” = Polish?) And the restaurant was nice.
The biggest news is that Alex said “I like this” to his Turkish dinner… after the issues he had with new foods last year, that is the best possible day-one surprise for Mom and Dad!
According to Google it’s: Isil Trading Garrison Pharmacy Sausage. Who knew?! Love the blogging! Keep up the great work Alex & Anna!!!
The chow sounds awesome–please bring us back a doggie bag.
You’ll be surprised about what you think is the “call to prayer.” I always thought it was a “call to hoops.” If you listen carefully, you can distinctly hear them say “IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIyyyyyyyyy wanna Baaaaaaaaaaasketbaaaaaaallllllllllll.” Tell me if this is wrong.
And just to get it started, check the historical records in that ancient place–I believe they will confirm that Uncle John is a smarmy git.
And they do it at 11:00 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
Wow! I’d thought he would not like the food.
