Grand Bizarre
Alex-
Today we went to the Grand Bazaar. The Grand Bazaar is the oldest shopping center in the world. We did not get anything, but Mom enjoyed going (the most important factor of the trip). The buildings were very hot inside, and we saw a cat walking down the street (there are cats everywhere in Istanbul).
We also visited the Ayasofya (Hagia Sofia) today. It was built in the year 500 as a Christian church before it became a mosque, and finally a museum. When you entered, you saw an mosaic of Mary, with Jesus in her lap. All of the artwork were mosaic. There even was mosaic calligraphy! Most of the mosaics had been covered over with plaster, but found during renovations.
After dinner, we visited a cake shop. They had cake, pudding, and others. Anna and I tried the Turkish Coffee, and didn’t like it. So, Mom drank one cup (about 4 packs of sugar), along with tasting a rather large percentage of my Chocolate Pudding and Anna’s Strawberry Cake. She also had a bit of Dad’s Rice pudding. The restaurateur got five Stars (*****) on Trip Adviser, and 3rd best restaurateur in Istanbul. All in all, it was a good day.
Tip of the day: When you can’t sleep, don’t wake up at 4:00 a.m. and use your iPad. Trust me, your family members won’t be happy.
Tee-hee- Anna did the opposite of the Tip.
Great advice, Alex. A much better idea: when you wake up at 4 and can’t get back to sleep, instead of playing on the ipad, parctice the drums instead.
Alex- Drums with microphones with speakers, going through a bullhorn, going through another set of microphones with speakers would be better.
