Civil thats not civil (Alex)

Today, we went to the Gettysburg National Park. We started by going on a driving tour of all of the sights. We saw the memorial to each state, and also the memorials to some of the groups both Union and Confederate.

We drove along the lines of the Confederate and Union troops, through all 3 days. Something very interesting was that some buildings that were not rebuilt since the civil war have a plaque on them. The guide was very good, except 5 people in an Impala is a squeeze. We then went into the museum. The first part was a movie about the battle that lasted 3 days [the battle, not the movie- David], and how there were so many casualties (deaths and injuries). The second part was a 360˚ Panorama of what the battle fields may have looked like, with a story playing, lights showing the different areas, and a screen that had the transcript of the story. The third part was a museum. There were many artifacts in the museum, and lots of videos. Some artifacts include the first cannon shot at the battle of Gettysburg, and the type of gun used to kill Abraham Lincoln. Some movies included summaries of the 3 days, digital maps that showed the progression of the regions (north and south), and maps that showed the advances/retreats of the different soldiers. The artifacts were interesting, but Anna and I much preferred the movies. We spent pretty much all day in the museums, and got a little too much information thrown at us today. [Intentional…. There’s not much else to do in Gettysburg so we might as well make the most of it- David]. This is an overview of our day.
