Imitation Game Happened Here (by Rachel)

by on June 21, 2015

We finally somewhat adjusted to the timezone today and got up earlier than we have been to get on a train and head to Bletchley Park, the home of the Bombe, the Enigma code breaking machine.  We got to see an actual Enigma machine, tour the mansion and all of the facilities, and see some of the sets from The Imitation Game movie about Alan Turing and the team who broke the Enigma code.  We also got to see a working Bombe that is being rebuilt following the blueprints used during World War II (theoretically, this means that any part could be replaced by a part from an original machine and it would still work).  A demonstration on the machine was given by two mathematicians on how it breaks an unbreakable code, and it’s incredible how much skill and knowledge it takes to understand and decipher this incredible machine.  Blechley Park as a whole was a beautiful place, and being able to see the English Countryside on the way there was awesome.

We were not able to get tickets to a show tonight, we were going to see Thriller, the Michael Jackson tribute show, so instead we had dinner just a few blocks away from our apartment and are going head to bed early tonight.

The Enigma machine sounds cool. What a bummer to miss Thriller. You guys are sure doing a lot.
